STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
In my work, I have been interested mainly in painting. This approach has led me to question pictorial facts in other mediums and to experiment with video, photography, animation, and writing. In these explorations, I produce images that constitute an archive that might or might not lead to something else after time has passed. I deal with themes such as self-portraiture, perception of light, and personal memory. These ideas are often distorted by imagination and perceptions. My artistic process is very intuitive.
I am interested in expanding my notions about painting today as a contemporary artist. To understand where this millenary tradition is going and to be part of it. For me is fundamental to deepen in experimental aspects that involve image technologies to enrich my creative process, as well as to confront the traditional ways of painting with the current ones. I want to understand better the potential of this language to become more involved in contemporary and global issues. I see painting as a form of expression similar to writing, an abstracted language, a product of the relationship between hand, mind, and life. A synthesis of body and thought.
The project I am interested in pursuing addresses labor self-exploitation as a misconception of self-fulfillment. The high standards of living imposed by the system have made human beings enter a non-stop performance mode, making them more prone to psychological illnesses and collapse. My purpose is to create a space for reflection that resists the devastating high standards of today’s unstoppable economic performance with a project that invites us to question ourselves about the meaning of life and true freedom.
